Black Bean Burgers

These burgers are delicious, easy to make and they’re perfect if you’re trying to reduce your intake of meat dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 (540 mL) cans of black beans, washed and drained, divided
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped into big pieces
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs (panko)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 – 6 hamburger buns
  • 1 sliced tomato
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce or any other type of lettuce
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced

    In a food processor, put the black beans, onion, garlic, cilantro, egg, salt, and pepper. Pulse until a puree texture is reached.

    Pour the puree into a large bowl, add the remaining cup of black beans and the breadcrumbs. Mix until you get a smooth mixture.

    Lightly spray oil into a pan and heat over medium-low heat.

    Form 4 – 6 patties. Place them in the hot pan and fry them, 6 minutes per side or until slightly golden brown.

    To assemble the burgers: Place one patty over half a bun. Add the lettuce, tomato, and avocado to taste. Cover with the other half of the bun. Serve.

Expert Tips

  • Tip 1
    If you want to make it spicier, you may add 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes to the black bean mixture.
