Date Walnut Cookies

Oatmeal and dates marry in a rich cookie-jar favourite. Make two batches if you want the cookie jar to stay full a long time.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg (496 g) Betty Crocker* Oatmeal Cookie Mix
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) water
  • 1 pkg (8 oz) chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup(175 mL) chopped walnuts
  • Icing sugar, if desired

Steps

    Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). In large bowl, stir all ingredients until stiff dough forms.

    Drop dough by teaspoonfuls 2 inches (5 cm) apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake 10 to 11 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Sprinkle with icing sugar.

    Tip: To use whole dates, snip dates into small pieces with scissors dipped into a glass of water.
