Ingredients

  • 1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 box Hamburger Helper* Cheddar Cheese Melt
  • 1 2/3 cups (400 mL) milk
  • 1 cup (250 mL) hot water
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) steak sauce
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) sliced fresh mushrooms (or canned mushrooms, drained)
  • 1 can (2.8 oz) French-fried onions (about 1 1/2 cups/375 mL)

Steps

  •
    1
In 10-inch skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain.
  •
    2
Stir in uncooked Pasta, Sauce Mix, milk, hot water, the steak sauce and mushrooms. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender. Remove from heat.
  •
    3
Top with onions. Cover; let stand about 5 minutes or until sauce is as thick as you'd like (sauce will thicken as it stands).

Expert Tips

  • Tip 1
Substitution: French-fried onions add irresistible crunch to this yummy hamburger dish. But if you don’t have any on hand, you can use crushed potato, corn or tortilla chips instead!
