Ingredients

  • 6 cups (1.5 L) Rice Chex* Cereal
  • 3 cups (750 mL) Honey Nut Cheerios* Cereal
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) sliced almonds
  • 1 cup (250 mL) dried banana chips
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) honey
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) instant nonfat dry milk or original-flavour nondairy creamer, if desired
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried orange peel
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla

    In large microwaveable bowl, mix cereals, almonds and banana chips.

    In 2-cup microwaveable measuring cup, microwave butter on High about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.

    Microwave on High 4 to 6 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes, until golden brown. Spread on waxed paper or paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.

    Did You Know?: For spicy flavour, omit dried milk or creamer. If dried milk or creamer is used, flavour will be less spicy and a little sweeter.

    Purchasing: Look for the spices - and bottles of orange peel in the baking section. Or you can save a bit of money sometimes purchasing these items in bulk.

    OVEN DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 300°F. In ungreased large roasting pan, mix cereals, almonds and banana chips. In 1-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Remove from heat. Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated. Bake 45 to 60 minutes or until golden brown, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on waxed paper or paper towels to cool. Store in airtight container.
