Ingredients

  • 12 cups (3 L) popped popcorn
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) walnut or pecan halves or 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) unblanched whole almonds
  • 1 cup (250 mL) packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) baking soda

    Heat oven to 200ºF (90°C). Divide popcorn and pecans between 2 ungreased rectangular pans, 13x9x2 inches (33x23x5 cm).

    Heat brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt in 3-quart (3 L) saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until bubbly around edges. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally; remove from heat. Stir in baking soda.

    Pour mixture over popcorn and walnuts; stir until well coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
