Get moving and be merry!
Simple ways to add some hustle into your holiday bustle
During the hurried holiday season, squeezing in time for physical activities can be a challenge. But remember—you don’t have to drop everything to get more movement into your busy life. Many holiday traditions revolve around parties and presents. How about creating a new tradition that involves being active as a family?
Spark an Interest: Holidays are a great time for family members to get together and share stories. Get your kids thinking by reminiscing about the sports and activities grandma used to enjoy as a child, or sharing old sports stories from an old family album.
Ho-Ho-HOP: While your family feast cooks in the oven, participate in a Santa sack race. Grab some old pillowcases and Ho-Ho-Hop all the way to the finish line.
Santa's Scavenger Hunt: Instead of putting presents under the tree, try placing a present or two throughout the house as part of a Santa Scavenger hunt. Ask your kids to wiggle to the next room or do 20 jumping jacks to get the next clue.
Winter Wonderland: Instead of sending the kids outside to build a snowman, get the whole family bundled up to shovel the walk or build a snow friend in the yard. Research shows that more active parents have more active kids.
Light up the Night: Your community can be a wonderful place to explore during the holiday season. An after-dinner walk around the neighbourhood will give you a great opportunity to stretch your legs and take in the decorative lights.
