Easy Guacamole

You can make irresistible homemade guac in 10 minutes flat with just four ingredients!


2 large ripe avocados
1 tbsp (15 mL) lime juice
1 plum (Roma) tomato, chopped
1 tbsp (15 mL) chopped fresh cilantro, if desired
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
Dash ground red pepper (cayenne)
Tortilla chips


  • Cut each avocado in half lengthwise around pit. Twist halves in opposite directions to separate. Place avocado half with pit on countertop. Hit pit with sharp edge of knife. Grasp avocado half; twist knife to loosen and remove pit. Scoop avocado flesh with spoon into medium bowl. Coarsely mash avocados with fork.
  • Stir lime juice, tomato, cilantro, salt and red pepper into avocados.
  • Serve guacamole with tortilla chips.




Tip
Did You Know?: The lime juice not only adds flavour but helps keep the mashed avocados from darkening. Add it to the mashed avocados as soon as possible. If you don't have lime juice, use lemon juice.
Success : If only very firm, unripe avocados are available in the supermarket, let the avocado ripen at room temperature until it yields to gentle pressure but is still firm.
